I'd like to live in Australia for a little while, or maybe not "live" but you know... stay a couple months something like that.
I'm looking for warm weather and a good city scene. (Anywhere from the 70s-90s Farenheit, about 20s-30s C.)
I'm a surfer! Looking for good beaches and good surf scenes.
Ummm, yeah that's it! Just looking for some differences between the two in terms of weather, city size, surf culture, etc.
If you think of any additional places I'd appreciate it!
Thanks so much (:

That's an easy choice ...neither as Brisbane is on a river & Darwin a sheltered harbour so no surf !

Better option would be either the Gold or Sunshine coasts of south east Queensland or any of a number of great beach areas on the northern coast of New South Wales..

Darwin has no surf and Brisbane is on a river and inland. Maximum temperatures in Darwin are around 30°C+ all year round, Brisbane is warm to hot in summer, mild to warm in winter. Brisbane is about ten times larger than Darwin. If you want surf in Queensland, the Gold Coast has some major surf beaches. The GC is about an hour south of Brisbane.

The city with the best surf close to the city is Sydney. It is the biggest city in Australia and has dozens of surf beaches that are easily accessible by public transport. Surfboards are allowed on buses and trains.. In summer, 80% of maximum temperatures are between about 21°C and 31°C. It is much cooler in winter.

everyone else here has told you these two cites wouldn't be the best so I'll try and help you pick a good one. Are you looking for a big city? If you are Sydney, the Gold Coast or Perth would be your best bets as they pretty much fall in that temp. range to a bit above in summer. Also they all have plenty of things to see and do. If you want somewhere smaller (less busy) I would reccomend places along the NSW north coast. Newcastle is the biggest of these cities and has its own airport (access to cities round Australia) and easy access to Sydney (about a 2 hr drive, 3 hr train ride). There are smaller towns north though like Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay that may also suit you with great beaches. Finally you might also like to consider Wollongong which is just south of Sydney. It is very similar to Newcastle but a little closer to Sydney.

Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise) One Hour drive South of Brisbane.

You can't Surf in Darwin, you will be eaten. 5 Meter long Crocodiles.

Darwin has two seasons, the Wet and the Dry. Both very hot.

although brisbane is much more of a city, neither would fit your purpose.

go a bit further south (on both sides of australia)
